I think the hostile environment thing is kinda cool though I got pretty triggered by some desert scenes that felt very “shape rotator” oriented and therefore confusing to me.
For instance, when Paul and his mom get their luggage trapped under the sand and Paul rigs some nonsense contraption and uses a compass and some other shit to locate the stuff and then somehow get it out from under the sand.
I have no fucking clue what happened there.
But yeah, Arrakis is hostile. I like the stillsuits. I think showing the technology that has been invented to deal with how hostile Arrakis is works pretty well.
I think if I were trying to convince a reader of a hostile environment that’s how I would do it.
I would tell you about the stuff we invented to solve that problem.
We should do something like that for Mystery Science Theater 3Monday.
Like, there should be a piece of janitorial equipment that we use to deal with some hostile environment and through learning about the equipment you realize how unreasonably hostile the environment is.
